Design Focus

In the design of a full service athletic club and suites, I think lighting and technology is an important focus. Areas of athletics and fitness in the club deserve proper lighting. Choosing specific lighting that is right for each area is important and I would like to develop a 3-D light rendering model in my project to show the different lighting needed in different areas of the club from the fitness rooms to the sports bar to the condos. Maintenance, energy consumption, and client concerns are important. Technology is another area that needs focus when designing an athletic club. In order to be a successful club, state of the art fitness and equipment should be used with the latest technology. I would like to research and use the latest trends and equipment in the business. These will make the members feel that they are receiving the latest and greatest in fitness and training. Safety is an important issue with athletics and fitness training. Choosing equipment that is proven safe is important to the needs of the members who want to improve their quality of life.

Project Proposal

Health and fitness is an important issue in society. More Americans become unhealthier each year. This is due to the lack of exercise in their daily lives. It is important to have facilities to encourage those who take interest in their personal health and fitness where they can go to work out and experience routine exercise. The design of a large scale health and athletic club would be beneficial to those who are looking for a place to commit themselves to improving their health and quality of life. The downtown institution will cater to their health and wellness needs using the latest trends, features, and technology to encourage the best exercise ever. Having this health and fitness facility with apartments above in downtown Baton Rouge would encourage those who are wanting to commit themselves to staying in shape do so. While fitness is a physical health issue, it is also important to maintain good mental health relaxing the mind and senses. A spa and wellness center located in the facility would promote another type of wellness. The club will be a place that combines fitness, therapy, and relaxation.

Introducing a New Health and Athletic Club for Baton Rouge

The Baton Rouge Athletic Club will be located in the Kress, Knox, and Welsch Levy buildings on Third and Main in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The club is a downtown institution catering to the athletic and hospitality needs of its members. They can experience exclusive comfort in penthouses above the club. The latest fitness technology, trends, and features can be experienced here. Benefits include a commitment to improving the health and quality of life of its members. Health and fitness is an important issue in society. It is important to have a place for those who take interest in their personal health and fitness to work out and experience routine exercise but at the same time have fun doing it. The Baton Rouge Athletic Club contains 3 floors of fitness, therapy, and relaxation. The first 2 floors are the fitness and exercise facilities while the third floor contains residential units and a spa. This club will be the first of its kind in the Capitol City. The users are the staff, members of the club, and residents living above as well as their guests. The goals and objectives of the users are to be a part of a full service health club featuring the latest fitness trends. By keeping fit, they are improving their quality of life and will become happier in mind and body.

My Design Philosophy

The interior spaces we live and work in provide the backdrop for most of our activities. Interior design influences our movements, social interactions, and moods. With the power to transform the physical environment, the quality of life is impacted by translating ideas and emotional responses into built space. "A comfort to the soul and inspiration to the senses" is my motivation for interior design. My objective is to design an experience to feel a sense of ease, calm, and comfort in interior surroundings that express personal style. A solution used in my designs: Dream Big! Your interior design dreams come true by turning them into reality. From the first sketch to the finished project, my work begins and ends with a vision. Architectural elements, composition of space, and significance of line and color are just some aspects that enhance a space. It's about so much more than looking good or enhancing your identity, always seeking more in an endless cycle. Great interior design is giving your vision life. I've come to see that interior design, at its best, is yoga for your home and for your life.

Baton Rouge Athletic Club

My proposal for the senior capstone project is an athletic club with condos located above. I've chosen the Kress, Knox, and Welsch-Levy buildings in downtown Baton Rouge as the location.
